Just hours before the Queen’s celebration was to continue in central London, Trafalgar Square was evacuated. Wild rumors spread on social media, but the alarm was quickly blown off.

“Please do not come to the area,” London police wrote on Twitter on Saturday morning. Pictures showed how the square had been emptied and blocked off. But soon a reassuring message came: “Police are still at the scene, but the incident is over and the square is opened as it suffers.”

No further explanation was given immediately, but according to unconfirmed information on social media, a bang had been heard and a vehicle that aroused the police’s suspicions would have been at the scene.
