A tractor-trailer rollover closed Highway 401 in both directions near Bloomfield Road in Chatham-Kent early Thursday, provincial police say.

The single-truck crash occurred on the 401 West about 5:43 am, Elgin OPP said. A lone occupant was involved.

Chatham detachment officers, Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services, and paramedics responded to the call.
“The driver of the vehicle was required to be extricated and has been transported by Air Ornge to a trauma center,” Const. Brett Phair said in a social media video from the scene.
In a media release later in the morning, police said the driver’s injuries were not life-threatening.
The highway was expected to remain closed for several hours to allow for cleaningup and vehicle removal.
