TPSs first team turned Classic upside down womens floorball

TPS captain Jenna Saario lifted her team from a loss to the lead with two hits in the second period.

TPS’ first team scored four goals on Monday, when the team defeated Lempäälä Classic 4–1 in the third final match of the women’s floorball league. This gives TPS a 2-1 lead, and it is two wins away from a third consecutive championship.

If TPS wins on Thursday at Turku Kupitta, it will have the championship on hold in the fifth final on Saturday. The possible sixth match of the final series would be played on Sunday, April 14, i.e. the same day as the two goals scored Jenna Saario celebrates his 26th birthday.

– Not thinking that far, but only one match at a time. The goal is clear. Today, the defensive game worked much better than in the previous match, Saario referred to the 0-5 home loss on Sunday.

The match was scoreless for more than half an hour. Veera Vilenius gave Classic the lead, but Saario struck twice in the second set. The latter was therefore the winning goal.

– I hope there will be a double party this weekend. A year ago, the family had a double party, when my boyfriend Olli Laine he celebrated the championship too. This year his games are over, hopefully he will come here on Saturday to watch, Saario said.

Captain Saario played the previous two matches as a defender, but now he moved to the middle of the first line having also scored two goals Meri-Helmi Höynälän and Laura Rantanen between. Ketju won their game 3–0, as Höynälä scored one goal with superiority. If second assists were distributed in the league, it would have entered the statistics for Saario.

Saario is studying at the University of Turku, and he has three years of studies left. He has signed an extension for next season.

A total of six TPS players who won silver for Finland at the last World Cup have a contract for the 2024–25 season. About them Sofia Leino has not played in the playoffs.

Last spring’s playoff hero, who was injured at the World Championships in December in Singapore, has also been out Milla Nordlund.

– Our young players have filled really big boots after Christmas this season, Saario praised.
