TPS won the womens floorball opening final Saario decided

In the women’s first floorball final, TPS won Classic after extra time 3–2.

On Friday, TPS continued where it left off last spring in the final matches of the women’s floorball league. The team from Turku defeated the home team in the overtime of the first final of the Classic, now 3–2.

A year ago Laura Rantanen decided the championship for TPS in the 69th minute, and the team did not lose a single match in the season. Now it was the one who played as a defender Jenna Saarion it’s the turn to topple Classic in overtime at the 67th minute.

Maalin passed the power of 1+2 collected Meri-Helmi Höynälä.

– We got a free kick and I passed it to Jenna. He shot and the party started, Höynälä said.

In the semifinals, Höynälä put together 4+5 performances and scored at least one point in each match. Thus, Höynälä’s point streak, which leads the point exchange in the playoffs, is already five games long.

TPS was close to winning in regular time, because the Classic Suvi Hämäläinen equalized with his second goal of the night without a goalkeeper just 11 seconds before the end of regular time.

– It was a shame, but we didn’t panic. We played a good start to the overtime and then the goal came, Höynälä was happy.

Tepsi has a lot of injuries

TPS’s second most effective attacker, Saario, played as a defender, when both Noora Rantanen that Ina Leminen were on the sidelines. Leminen was in the lineup, but did not play. Played for the last time on February 17 Henrika Maikola now back in the lineup after a knee injury.

In addition, the ideal composition of TPS was missing Milla Nordlund and Sofia Leino. Last spring, Nordlund scored a playoff single-season record of 35 points.

Nordlund was injured in December at the World Championships in Singapore, before that he scored 14+18=32 points in 13 games. Leino also played in the World Cup, his balance in the regular season was 11+7=18 points in 14 matches.

18 last spring’s champions have played in the TPS playoffs this spring, and no fewer than 15 of them celebrated gold also in 2022, after TPS overthrew PSS.

The victory was not a surprise, as TPS already beat Classic 3–2 in the final match of the Finnish Cup in Lahti.

Four wins are needed for the championship. The next match will be played on Sunday in Turku.
