Chinese joint venture FAW Toyota is taking precautions against problems caused by the battery management system with the second major recall of the electric vehicle model bZ3. This recall aims to address issues where the vehicle incorrectly estimates battery capacity and, in some cases, loses power without warning.
Toyota recalled 25,815 electric vehicles
According to the statement on the website of the China State Administration of Market Regulation, FAW Toyota has recalled 25,815 electric vehicles of the bZ3 model. The source of the problem is incorrect programming of the vehicle’s battery management controller. This incorrect programming leads to significant deviations in remaining power estimates, especially in vehicles that are not fully charged and driven at high speeds.
The recall process states that in addition to inaccurate remaining battery estimates on the screens of vehicles in the BZ3 model, they may lose power completely without any low charge warning in cases such as extreme temperature drops or increases. This especially affects users who travel at high speeds and have a habit of charging fully.
