Toyota begins to produce its next generation hybrid system in Europe


European production work continues for the fifth generation Toyota hybrid system, which we encountered for the first time in Corolla Cross.

Toyota has started preparations to produce the latest generation hybrid system, which offers noticeable improvements in important topics such as performance and fuel efficiency, at its European facilities. Within the scope of this plan, the 5th generation hybrid technology will be produced in Europe to be used in the 2023 model year Corolla. The new hybrid system will be produced in Toyota’s Poland and UK factories and will take its place in Corolla models that come off the band in Turkey and the UK.

Toyota is also updating its production facilities

Production of the 5th generation hybrid engines and transmissions will begin with the upgrade of seven production lines, with an investment of 77 million euros at the Polish plant and 541,000 euros at the UK plant. The brand manufactures MG1 and MG2 electric motors and hybrid transmissions in Poland, while these components will be combined with the 1.8-liter petrol engine in the UK to form the 5th generation hybrid drivetrain.

The 5th generation Toyota hybrid technology, which is also featured in the Corolla Cross, stands out with its lighter, more compact and higher power electric motors. The new hybrid technology, which offers lower consumption and CO2 emissions with the higher amount of electric driving in daily driving, also provides higher performance. The 1.8-liter hybrid engine with 140 PS will reduce the 0-100 km/h acceleration value by 1.7 seconds to 9.2 seconds in Corolla compared to the previous generation.
