The fact that the Danish eggs contain high levels of PFAS is due to the fact that the laying hens are fed fishmeal, reports Sveriges Radio P4 Kalmar.
Even in Sweden, fishmeal is used for eco-chickens and the industry is aware of the alarm.
– We are following it with great interest, and are in communication with the authorities, says Marie Lönneskog Hogstadius, operations manager at the industry organization Swedish eggs to SR.
She says that according to the measurements made in Sweden, the chicken feed with fishmeal does not contain high levels of PFAS. One reason could be that fishmeal from Baltic fish is not used, which is done in Denmark.
