In Paris, sanitation workers have been on strike for over a week and it has had consequences. Around the city, mountains of garbage grow and trash cans overflow. Maybe not the sight, or smell, that the tourists were hoping for. – You have to zigzag between the bins, it’s not very nice, says Claudia Harmand from Germany, who is in Paris with her boyfriend. It is about thousands of tons of garbage that have not been picked up in the areas of Paris that municipal cleaning workers are responsible for. They are striking in protest against France’s plans to raise the retirement age. – The smell is really disgusting. Especially when you want to eat, says Angeles Mosqueda from Mexico.
