A German tourist was walking with his wife in central Paris when they were attacked. The man is dead and the woman injured. Now the police in France are investigating suspicions of terrorist motives.
– He is known by the police and the legal system, says French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.
The suspected perpetrator attacked with both a knife and a hammer.
French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin then urged people to avoid the area. The man was then arrested at the scene by the police after they neutralized him with a stun gun.
Already known to the police
According to France’s interior minister, the perpetrator is a supporter of radical Islam. He is said to be known to the police as a possible security threat.
– He was under the supervision of the security police as a person with serious mental problems, Gérald Darmanin.
The man is 26 years old and born in France. He has previously served four years in prison for planning another attack.
– He is receiving psychological and neurological treatment, says the Minister of the Interior.
