A French tourist in his 40s was injured when a polar bear entered a tent camp and attacked on Svalbard on Monday morning.
The tourist was part of a tour group of 25 people and according to the police, the injuries to the arm are not life-threatening.
Shots must have been fired at the polar bear in connection with the attack.
– The polar bear has been located by the police and because it was so badly injured, it has had to be euthanized, says Stein Olav Bredli who is head of the police department in Svalbad.
