Nearly a month after the opening of the Conakry stadium massacre trial, Aboubacar Sidiki Diakité, known as “Toumba”, appeared on Wednesday, October 26 for the fourth time.
With our correspondent in Conakry, Matthias Raynal
Dressed in a pure white boubou, “Toumba” appeared at the helm for the fourth time on Wednesday morning. After the passages of former Secretary of State Moussa Tiegboro Camara and Captain Marcel Guilavogui, who denied the facts of which they are accused, “Toumba” had promised the whole truth. Moussa’s former aide Dadis Camara therefore continued to ruin their defence. He claimed to have seen Moussa Tiegboro Camara and Marcel Guilavogui at the stadium on September 28, 2009, and presented the former head of the junta as the main organizer.
Their lawyers had the opportunity to retaliate, while counsel for the 11 defendants had reached an agreement for this trial: they had to content themselves with questioning their clients. The statements of “Toumba” have shattered the relative unity displayed so far.
Now it’s every man for himself. All day, “Toumba” was grilled. His version of the facts was challenged by defense lawyers. A situation that greatly benefits the civil parties. Remained silent on Wednesday, Me Halimatou Camara, lawyer for the civil parties, thus welcomed during the suspension of the midday hearing this speech by “Toumba”. A speech of truth which, according to her, contrasts with the denials of the previous weeks.
The case was adjourned to next week. The appearance of Aboubacar Sidiki Diakité will continue.
