The British government announced on Wednesday evening that it wants to ensure the financial security of the country’s football clubs. Among other things, it is about making tougher demands on new owners where you properly go through where the money comes from.
The new regulations will also prevent English clubs from entering new competitions that do not meet the FA’s criteria. This makes it impossible for the big clubs to, for example, play in the Super League – the closed elite league that would compete with the Champions League.
The regulations apply from the Premier League down to the fifth division in the English league system.
“These plans will put supporters in the driver’s seat of football, protecting football’s rich history and the beautiful game. This is also a way to protect future generations, says UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in a statement.
