Tougher baggage rules at Arlanda again

From September, the EU Commission will introduce new rules regarding liquid controls at EU airports. These are rules that, among other things, affect terminal 5 at Arlanda, as well as the airport in Sälen.

Last summer, a new security check with the latest technology was introduced at Arlanda’s Terminal 5 – where you could bring bottles larger than 100 ml.

In the past, it has been possible to carry larger volumes with you in your luggage, says Andreas Holmgren, head of unit at the Swedish Transport Agency.

Nor has the liquid had to be put in a resealable bag or taken out of the bag at security.

“Want to refine”

But from 1 September, you will only be able to take 100 ml per bottle with you – again.

The limitation is introduced in order to improve the scanning equipment, says Andreas Holmgren.

You want to refine it and during that time you introduce a limitation in the size of the liquid containers.

However, there is no limit on how many bottles a traveler can bring with them. Liquid containers can still remain in hand luggage and do not need to be placed in a separate bag. The same applies to electronics.

Temporary rules

The restriction is only temporary, however, it is not known how long it will apply.

After all, you are working on finding a solution that you can return to the way it was before. But we can’t really answer when and for how long, says Andreas Holmgren.

Other terminals at Arlanda, as well as the remaining airports, are not affected by the change. There is already the limitation of 100 ml per bottle.
