A Boeing 737-300 skidded off the runway in Senegal’s capital Dakar on Thursday. There were 85 people on board and at least ten of them were injured, four of them seriously.
In pictures from the scene, passengers can be seen using the inflatable emergency slide on the side of the plane to get out. What caused the accident is still unclear.
Earlier on Thursday, one of the tires on a Boeing 737-800 also exploded during landing at Gazipasa Airport near the coastal city of Alanya in Turkey. There were 190 people on board, all of whom escaped unharmed. The plane belonging to Corendon Airlines was en route from Cologne, Germany.
And less than 24 hours earlier, the front landing gear of a Boeing 767 model Fedex plane failed to deploy in Istanbul, Turkey. Neither then was anyone injured, reports say AP.
With that, three accidents linked to the aircraft manufacturer Boeing have occurred in one day.
Tough year
2024 has been a tough year for Boeing. In January, Boeing came under fire after a door plug on a Boeing 737 Max-9 ripped loose mid-air shortly after takeoff, just one of several other incidents.
The accident prompted the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to impose a temporary grounding on all models of the 737 Max-9 until thorough checks of the plane were carried out.
At the same time, the company has one of the worst performing stocks on the S&P 500 with a dip of 27 percent this year.
New investigation initiated
As recently as Tuesday, a new investigation was opened against the company. The FAA is now investigating whether Boeing’s inspections of the 787 Dreamliner went right and whether company employees may have falsified inspection documents, reports The Guardian.
Earlier this year, Boeing also announced a reshuffle at the highest level. CEO Dave Calhoun announced his intention to step down from the role at the end of the year. The chairman of the board also announced that he will leave. Also, the head of commercial aircraft Dan deal resigned with immediate effect, wrote CNN.
