Tough outing in Russia against Ebba Andersson – after Therese Johaug’s announcement about a comeback: “Hardly serious”

Therese Johaug opened last week for a comeback.
Then Russian Sport-Express believes that the winning streak is over for Ebba Andersson.
“It is no coincidence that Sweden’s national team manager said that women’s skiing has become more interesting after Johaug’s end,” writes the site.

Norwegian skiing prodigy Therese Johaug, 35, ended her skiing career in April 2022, after, among other things, 14 World Cup golds and four Olympic golds. Earlier this year, Johaug had a daughter Kristin with her partner Niels Jakob Hoff.

Saw Ebba Andersson

Despite that, the 35-year-old opened last week for a return to skiing, during the WC 2025 in Trondheim.
– We’ll see. I haven’t really decided yet whether there will be a few more ski races or no more ski races. I have to admit that I exercise a little. Yes I do. I haven’t scrapped the WC in Trondheim completely, but right now my focus is not there. My focus is on everyday life here and now and on being a good mother, she told NRK.

The Russian site Sport-Express states in principle that Johaug will return to the ski track before the WC 2025. And after the Norwegian’s announcement, the site writes that Swedish skiing star Ebba Andersson may face a tough future.
“Ebba Anderson won two golds in Planica, but once Therese returns to her previous form, the Swede is unlikely to be a serious rival for her,” writes Sport-Express.

The words about Johaug

After Johaug retired in 2022, the Swedish national team manager said Anders Byström that women’s skiing became a more interesting sport as there was greater competition for the medals.

Sport-Express does not agree with that.
“He (Anders Byström) saw an opportunity for his national team, due to the generational change in Norway and Russia’s withdrawal. However, skiing needs big names, and Therese’s return will definitely be a plus for the FIS,” they write.
