Total misery – over 50 dogs taken care of in Norrbotten

The County Administrative Board has checked a total of three facilities with the same owner. Together with the police, around 50 draft dogs and two cats have been taken into custody.

Three of the dogs were in such bad condition that they had to be euthanized.

– There has not been permission to have the amount of dogs that were in the various places, says Anna Modig, head of the animal welfare and veterinary unit at the county administration in Norrbotten.

Trapped in a urine-soaked cage

At one of the facilities there was no electricity or running water in the cabins. Around 10 dogs were chained outside and were severely emaciated and in poor condition.

“In one cabin, a bitch was kept with four puppies that were about 2 weeks old. The bitch and puppies were trapped in a cage that was soaked in urine and feces,” the report states.

Dogs looking for new homes

The authority has not had time to make a decision on whether to press charges – not even regarding the future of all the animals.

However, they are looking for new homes 18 of the dogs in caremost of the Alaskan husky breed.

“A great dark speech”

Anna Modig does not believe that this is the last case they will have to deal with.

– I think there is a large number in the dark as there are probably many facilities that we do not know about because they have not notified us of their operations. We have limited resources and usually go out when people report abuse.
