The latest report from the Internet Foundation maps the screen habits of children and young people. Between the ages of 8-19, seven out of ten use a screen in bed before going to sleep. But the majority of parents see at the same time as many advantages as disadvantages of screen time.
– The report shows that parents appreciate the internet as a source of knowledge, says Jannike Tillå, communications manager and internet expert, in a statement.
But at the same time, parents feel that they have difficulty controlling what content their children take part in.
– People worry about not being able to protect children from, for example, violent, mind-numbing and dopamine-inducing content, says Jannike Tillå.
Mobile phones are prohibited here
Högstadieskolan Ljungsbro has been mobile-free since the fall semester 2023. Something the school has seen results in an increased social presence among the students. Now they play board games – instead of mobile games.
– Today it’s a completely different activity, you have fun together, says Jenny Lindvall, principal at Ljungbro school.
Something that used to be a problem at the school was abuse via the internet, but it has completely disappeared. Both between students, but also against teachers who are no longer filmed during class time.
When it comes to how digital tools are used in teaching, there have also been changes. The new seventh graders do not have their own laptop, but the computers are brought in and used when the teaching justifies it.
– We have looked at research that suggests that digital tools can, in some cases, affect learning negatively, says Jenny Lindvall.
