(Finance) – For the Italian fintech “it’s a moment of consolidationafter we have gone through a year where objectively it was difficult especially for the issue of investments, which decreased drastically; from the other point of view, however, we see a strong growth in partnerships, therefore collaborations between corporate and fintech, which also lead to M&A”. He told Finance Clelia Tosi, Head of Fintech Districton the occasion of the ninth edition of the Payments Fair.
“We are currently in this phase of consolidation which will certainly grow in the coming years and will also bring with it a greater attention to profitability of these companies, therefore not only the number of customers and revenues, but also starting to see how solid these realities are from the point of view of the income statement – he explained – We are in a phase of maturation of the ecosystem, which will continue in the next years, therefore perhaps we will have fewer new fintechs born but those that exist will become bigger and grow“.
The fintech ecosystem “is very fragmented, there are many areas, and our taxonomy has more than 10 subcategories – said Tosi – The most dynamic ones are certainly that of RegTechtherefore companies that offer technology to support internal controls, regulation and compliance; and along with this the world of AI and technologies applied to financenot only artificial intelligence but also data, machine learning and blockchain. These are certainly the fastest growing.”
“Another an interesting aspect is that of services to small and medium-sized businesses – highlighted the expert – There are numerous companies that are focusing on this and that are also arriving from abroad, precisely because obviously the Italian fabric helps in this sense, we have many companies that need greater digitalisation, greater efficiency and therefore new solutions are increasingly being created that address these needs”.
About next year, “the outlook is positive – explained Tosi – We are starting to see that harvesting is also picking up. This year our companies have raised around 80 million, there have been large investments such as the latest one from Satispay. There are certainly positive signs, both from the world of venture in general, with also interest from international investors who are starting to look at Italy; the world of corporate venture capital is growing, therefore corporate entities that also have the investment part and that try to combine investment synergy and industrial synergy; and greater internationalization of our companies”.
“2025 will certainly be a year of strong growth, we hope so at least, with also a impact of the regulation which however will be very stringentso there will certainly be no shortage of challenges, but as always we as District will help these companies to grow and make them work together with corporates that want to innovate”, he concluded.
