Torgny Mogren’s harsh verdict on Frida Karlsson – honest words about the star’s chances in the Tour de Ski: “Can be very…”

Frida Karlsson has started the Tour de Ski.
But Torgny Mogren still doesn’t believe in a victory.
– My feeling is that it can be very difficult, he tells Radiosporten.

Frida Karlsson started the season well – she was successful in the Swedish premiere, and then took a podium place during the World Cup premiere in Ruka. But then the 24-year-old fell ill with corona, and hasn’t been in the same form since.

Karlsson’s turn

Karlsson came to the Tour de Ski as reigning champion, after last season becoming the second Swede ever to win the tour. Frida was therefore one of the early favourites, even if her form was a bit of a question mark.

The start of the Tour de Ski was also a bit of a fiasco for Karlsson. Out to the quarter-finals in the sprint and an eleventh place in the distance race. But when it was time to start hunting on Wednesday, things turned around for Frida. The 24-year-old had the second fastest time of all, climbing the overall.

Mogren’s tipping

Karlsson is now eighth overall, 53 seconds behind the leader Jessie Diggins. And Radiosport’s expert Torgny Mogren think that the Swede can nibble further on Diggins now that the tour has moved on from Toblach to Davos.
– It should be possible. It is probably the sprint first and foremost that must be taken through in a good way. Now it went pretty well last time here, but she needs to improve somewhat in the sprint. But the other competitions are to her advantage, says Mogren in Radiosporten.

Yes, because it is the freestyle sprint that awaits next in the Tour de Ski – it takes place on Wednesday. It is followed by another hunt start before it is time for the finish in Val di Fiemme. Although there are some stages that suit Frida Karlsson, Mogren rules out her chances of winning the entire Tour de Ski.
– My feeling is that it can be very difficult and tough. Then Diggins must have one or two days with half-assed results, says the former skier to the radio channel’s website.
