Torgny Mogren’s clear criticism of Jonna Sundling at the World Cup

Jonna Sundling has really had a dream start to the new season.
The Swede has lined up sprint victories at the World Cup.
But now there is clear criticism of Sundling.

Another competition weekend at the World Cup ended with great cheers for Jonna Sundling. When many Swedish national team stars are missing, the 29-year-old has really been a great success.

Sundling’s success

First, Sundling won the team sprint together with Emma Ribom on Friday night and then she followed it up in the best possible way on Saturday night. By also winning the individual sprint by a landslide for the second week in a row.

With that, Sundling steps up into sole leadership for the Sprint Cup and she is only a few points from first place in the overall World Cup as well. But now comes clear criticism of the Swedish from the legend Torgny Mogren.

Mogren’s criticism

He is not at all satisfied with Jonna Sundling opting out of the Tour de Ski and thus throwing away the opportunity to write Swedish sports history.
– The chance to win the overall World Cup is definitely blown away. There are too many points to overtake in the Tour de Ski and Jonna Sundling loses it. She was an aspirant to win the overall world cup so it looks bleak. But it is her decision, says the skiing expert to Radiosporten.

A Swedish female skier has never won the overall World Cup in cross-country skiing, Lynn Svahn came second last season.
– Had Jonna gone on the tour and had a good result on the tour, she would have received a lot of points. Then she could have been in the fight for the overall World Cup, I think so. But now it’s the WC and she prioritizes that as the big goal this year, says Mogren.

The Swedish skiing legend also criticizes the fact that Sweden only fielded two skiers in Sunday’s mass start. When Sofia Henriksson and Moa Ilar were the only ones to represent the blue-yellow colors on the starting line.
– It is thin and too bad. That we don’t have more than two girls to compete with in a World Cup competition, now I don’t know all the conditions and it’s easy to sit in the stands. That’s how it always is. But there should have been someone at home who could have gone, says Torgny Mogren in his criticism.
– I think it is a bit tragic that there are only two on the starting line.
