The trainer icon revealed the terrible news in the program “Sunday Interview” on Sveriges Radio. During the interview, Eriksson also talked about the relationship with his long-time gun bearer.
– I have learned a great deal from Tord as a football coach, but also as a person. I talk to Tord every week, says Svennis to the radio channel.

“Never Said That”

Tord Grip is completely moved by his 75-year-old friend’s kind words and now opens up about their unique relationship.
– We have known each other since the 1970s, that is a long time. We have experienced a lot of things together, both fun and less fun. But one thing I can say, we have never said a bad word to each other in all these years. Never, admits Grip in an interview with Expressen.

Svenni’s gloomy health news came as a shock to the entire football world, but for Tord it was no news. He has been with me throughout the course of the illness and has been a great support for the coaching colleague.
– In the beginning it still looked quite good, we thought, but then you realized that it was bad. It has been difficult for Svennis, of course. It is a terrible disease, says Grip to the evening newspaper.

Despite the tough year that has been, Grip and Eriksson have continued to keep in close contact, just as they have done for half a century.
– We hear each other every week, we have a special time when we call, and we have continued to do that now as well. We haven’t talked as much football as usual. The conversations have obviously been about Svenni’s health as well, and life, says Tord Grip in the interview.
– Life, life, it’s a difficult thing sometimes. But I am so grateful for the wonderful relationship I have with Svennis, it means a lot to me. He is a good friend.
