They have been followed for almost 50 years.
Now Tord Grip opens up about best friend Sven-Göran Eriksson’s terrible cancer news.
– I am so grateful for the wonderful relationship I have with “Svennis”, it means a lot to me, says Grip to Expressen.
Wherever Sven-Göran Eriksson moved followed the constant pair horse Thor Grip with and they have camped together for almost 50 years together. The coaching careers have taken the under-the-radar couple to seven different countries on four different continents and created an incredibly good relationship over the years.
Grip and Svennis
Grip’s very last coaching job was in Kosovo until 2016 when he retired. Now his best friend is fighting for his life after “Svennis” announced that he suffered from an incurable cancer.

The trainer icon revealed the terrible news in the program “Sunday Interview” on Sveriges Radio. During the interview, Eriksson also talked about the relationship with his long-time gun bearer.
– I have learned a great deal from Tord as a football coach, but also as a person. I talk to Tord every week, says Svennis to the radio channel.
“Never Said That”
Tord Grip is completely moved by his 75-year-old friend’s kind words and now opens up about their unique relationship.
– We have known each other since the 1970s, that is a long time. We have experienced a lot of things together, both fun and less fun. But one thing I can say, we have never said a bad word to each other in all these years. Never, admits Grip in an interview with Expressen.

Svenni’s gloomy health news came as a shock to the entire football world, but for Tord it was no news. He has been with me throughout the course of the illness and has been a great support for the coaching colleague.
– In the beginning it still looked quite good, we thought, but then you realized that it was bad. It has been difficult for Svennis, of course. It is a terrible disease, says Grip to the evening newspaper.

Despite the tough year that has been, Grip and Eriksson have continued to keep in close contact, just as they have done for half a century.
– We hear each other every week, we have a special time when we call, and we have continued to do that now as well. We haven’t talked as much football as usual. The conversations have obviously been about Svenni’s health as well, and life, says Tord Grip in the interview.
– Life, life, it’s a difficult thing sometimes. But I am so grateful for the wonderful relationship I have with Svennis, it means a lot to me. He is a good friend.
