Topi Parviainen wins European Youth Championship gold javelin world

Topi Parviainen organized quite a few fireworks in the men’s javelin at the under-18 European Athletics Championships in Jerusalem late on Wednesday evening.

The terrible throw of 84.52 in the last round brought an overwhelming championship and is also a new European record for this age group with a 700 gram javelin.

Top Parviainen improved his own record by almost 10 meters and beat the winner of the EC silver, Hungary Mate Horvath by more than ten meters.

– Good encouragement and incredible energy. Now it tastes and feels great, Parviainen stated immediately after his gold competition.

The start of the final for the thrower who represents the Tuupovaara Athletes and will turn 16 in the fall did not yet promise long arcs. After the first round, he was second with his throw of 72 meters.

The Finn’s second throw carried 66 meters, and the ones that followed it were broken as a sign of failure. In the fifth, his own record of 75.98 thundered, with which he took the lead.

Parviai has been considered the man of the last round. It was confirmed when, on his sixth throw, he scored 84.52.

– The skill of the last round has been missing for a while, but now it was found again.

– Already during the warm-up, I felt that today would go a long way. But I didn’t expect such a hard throw, said the embarrassed champion.

How does the European record feel?

– It’s a tough thing when you pass Keränen and his partners. And in the future I will pass their current results lightly, Parviainen joked and lightened the mood at the end.

With Keränen, he was referring to someone who once had great junior results Toni Keränen, who will represent Finland in the adult World Championships starting next week. The earlier EE 83.94 was German Niklas Kaulin in names from 2015.

Topi Parviainen is a spear family. Father Mika Parviainen once threw more than 80 meters, and uncle Aki Parviainen is the world champion of the sport and holder of the Finnish record of 93.09.
