Top European team G2 kicks out talented 22-year-old – at new star player’s request

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

In League of Legends, the top European team G2 Esports is repositioning itself ahead of the 2023 season. They were keen to sign 23-year-old Frenchman Steven “Hans sama” Liv ahead of the season, but he had one condition: he wanted a very specific support at his side. That was the undoing of the 22-year-old LoL pro Targamas.

How was the situation at G2 2021 and 2022?

Botlaner “reached its limits internationally” – Was replaced

What does G2 say about the change? In an interview (via twitch), the manager of G2 says that the young Spaniard Flakked was deliberately separated after a year. They were keen to bring in Hans sama, who had a bad year in the US with Team Liquid in 2022:

“We decided to replace the botlaner because Flakked was reaching its limits in international play. So we did everything we could to get Hans sama. We spoke to him earlier this year. Then he came back from a terrible season. He topped the European solo queue in a matter of weeks and made the top 20 in the Korean server. So he wasn’t “worn out” or “close to retirement” as some people say.”

Romain Biegeard, G2 Esports General Manager

Hans sama registers claims.

But as the manager says, Hans sama came with a clear demand. He didn’t want to play with the Belgian Targamas on the botlane, but with Mikyx, the predecessor of Targamas, whom G2 had released in 2021.

It is said: Hans sama played with Mikxy in 2018 and has good memories of the supporter. Hans sama has no problem with Targamas, but wants to play with Mikxy because they knew each other well from the solo queue.

Apparently that was the only condition the Frenchman made.

For Targamas, the time at G2 is already over.

The manager says:

We looked at the pros and cons and he wanted Mikyx so unfortunately we had to part ways with Targmas. Our priority was making the botlaner feel comfortable, so we acted that way.

Ironically, Mikyx is now back at G2. Targamas gets his now free post at Excel Esports. He must now take the whole thing with a smile: he is looking forward to the new year and “more trophies in 2023”, wrote the Belgian on Twitter.

In any case, the transfer wheel is running at full speed again:
