According to a survey of 60 million consumers, tea bags and herbal teas contain far too many pesticide residues.

Are you a fan of tea and herbal tea bags? The magazine 60 million consumers reviewed 48 products. Result: 16 problematic substances, such as hiacloprid, acetamiprid, chlorfenapyr, were found in these bags.

    Green tea more harmful

All the black and green teas analyzed are contaminated as well as the verbena-based infusions. Mainly involved are conventional tea crops, many of which are located in India or China, which use fungicides and insecticides for profitability reasons.

The worst students in the ranking are green teas and in particular “Cotterley mint green tea from Intermarché. The latter contains no less than four unauthorized residues (two neonicotinoids: thiacloprid and acetamiprid, as well as two other insecticides: chlorfenapyr and bifenthrin)”, underlines the magazine.

    Glyphosate in many products

Analyzes carried out by 60 million consumers also show that substances still authorized in Europe until 2022 or even 2023 are also present in tea bags. This is the case of glyphosate present in 30% of the products analyzed.

So choose organic teas if you want to continue drinking these products in the form of sachets, the only guarantee of a pesticide-free drink.
