The great con artist Anna Sorokin, known from Netflix, is ready for the new season of “Dancing with the stars”.
Sorokin, who is still under house arrest, will appear in the program in handcuffs. “I’m sure that with her talents she can find one way or another to get extra points,” writes long-time Let’s Dance judge Tony Irving in a text message to TV4.
Under the fake name Anna Delvey, Anna Sorokin pretended to be a German heiress who lived a life of luxury in New York. After she was convicted of fraud and theft in 2019, Netflix aired a few years later the drama series “Inventing Anna”, based on her life.
Now she is back in the spotlight. Anna Sorokin is one of the participants in the new round of American “Let’s dance”, “Dancing with the stars”.
“I think it is strange casting to glorify a criminal in this way in one of America’s biggest television programs, and which is also seen by children and young people,” writes Tony Irving in a text message.
Can surprise
Although Irving is slightly skeptical of Sorokin’s participation in the show, he believes she may have a few tricks up her sleeve. He also does not see the foot shackle as a problem.
“Dance-wise, I’m sure she can handle the foot shackle and I’m also sure that with her talents, she can find one way or another to get extra points.”
However, how the big fraud will be able to participate in the program, which is recorded in Los Angeles, remains to be seen. The Swedish Migration Agency wants to deport Anna Sorokin back to her native Germany. She was released from prison in October 2022, but has since been shackled and is not allowed to move freely outside of New York.
“Fashion icon with foot shackle”
The television company ABC jokes about the situation and calls her a “fashion icon with a foot shackle” in its press release and shows her in a ball gown and foot shackle in a commercial for the show.
Other stars set to dance this fall include actors Eric Roberts and Tori Spelling, as well as Stephen Nedoroscik, whose viral success on the pommel horse at the Paris Olympics this summer secured the U.S. team bronze in gymnastics.
