Several tons of cocaine floating in the Pacific Ocean have been found by New Zealand police.
The drugs were found north-west of New Zealand and it is said to be 3.2 tonnes of cocaine distributed in 81 bales which are believed to have been dumped by international smugglers.
The police suspect that smugglers had deliberately placed the cargo.
– This is by a good margin the largest find of illegal drugs that the New Zealand authorities have made, says the country’s police chief Andrew Coster at a press conference.
Police estimate that there is enough cocaine to serve the Australian market for about a year, and that is more than had been used in New Zealand in 30 years.
