Former baseball player Toni Kohonen considers his dismissal illegal.
A baseball legend Toni Kohonen has filed a summons application with the district court of Pirkanmaa regarding the dispute with Manse PP.
Kohonen confirms the matter to Urheilu. According to the subpoena application, he considers that Manse had no grounds for his dismissal.
– The contract has been terminated and I think it is an illegal termination. That’s why we haven’t reached an agreement with Mansen. Let’s go according to the long formula if we have to, Kohonen commented on the matter.
– The challenge has been put to rest. I have nothing to add to that.
Urheilu has tried to reach the current chairman of Manse PP Timo Mäkelää and the former chairman Matti Helimoa to comment on the matter.
Kohonen considers the dismissal to be illegal and demands compensation of more than 111,000 euros as well as court costs, which so far amount to around 9,000 euros. The compensation claim includes, among other things, salary and vacation compensation until September 2024, as well as compensation for non-material damage due to reputational damage.
Manse PP reported on Kohonen’s game manager contract in October, but according to Manse, he ended the employment relationship on March 23. The subpoena application contains a photo of the February event where Kohonen was told about the termination of the employment relationship. According to the application, Matti Helimo told Kohose at the end of the event that the club had no other option but to fire him.
Disputing the length of the contract
Helimo is the former chairman of Manse PP, who, according to his words, left his position because of transparency and openness when he was elected deputy mayor of the city of Tampere. Based on the subpoena, Helimo also negotiated the contract with Kohonen and sent him the first contract proposal. When the two had reached an agreement in principle on the terms, the members of Manse PP were included in the negotiations.
According to the subpoena, Mansen’s lawyer sent Kohonen a draft of the termination of the employment contract the same evening after the event in February. In his message, the lawyer stated that the outwardly stated reason for ending the cooperation could be something other than a lack of trust.
According to the subpoena, Kohonen also considers his contract to be longer than announced. Manse PP announced Kohonen’s contract as 1+2 years, but according to the application, the parties had agreed on a two-year contract.
Based on the communication, the club stated that it would correct the contract, but this has not been done.
