The successful baseball club Manse PP hired player legend Toni Kohonen as its new game manager, to say the least. Kohonen told Urheilu that the negotiations progressed quickly after his playing career ended.
The baseball player of all time has long been titled Toni Kohonen ended his playing career in August. A new career was quickly found in the sport he loved.
– After the end of my playing career, contacts started coming from all over Finland. We asked about interest in the game director’s duties, Kohonen opens the early autumn events.
For a few weeks, Kiteen Pallon’s upbringing thought about the decision to go immediately as a game director at the top level. According to Kohonen, three clubs negotiated with him about the game manager’s job. The decision to choose Manse became stronger as the negotiations progressed.
– After all, this is a tough challenge, but why not, if such an opportunity is available, Kohonen spins.
There is no need to question the man’s motivation.
– Enthusiasm for baseball ends when mulch is put on it, Kohonen adds.
“Not at all interested”
Kohonen himself is aware that almost hiring a yellow beak as a game director of a major club can arouse surprise and gravel sounds in the followers of the sport. The locker legend, who has played in Superpesis for almost 30 years, is used to this.
– Frankly speaking, other people’s speculation, criticism or guesses do not interest me at all. The sounds of gravel have been heard for 30 years, Kohonen emphasizes.

Known for his demanding level in his playing career, Kohonen wants to be a conversational game manager.
– I want to bring up my own experiences also from the point of view of how things could be done better. Then we discuss and decide how to implement things, says Kohonen, who also promises a lot of individual discussions.
The championship is the goal
The goal of the team that missed silver last season is naturally the championship. The new game director gets to start the actual work with the team in early November, when the first joint camp is also held. The focus in winter season training is on the indoor game.
– Next year we have to be much more capable of striking in the indoor game, Kohonen emphasizes.
Manse lost a star player earlier in the fall Tuomas Jussilan To Kirill of Kempele. Kohonen has not yet discussed possible player acquisitions with the club management.
– With my own knowledge, I want to be involved when possible acquisitions are discussed and I will probably be able to influence the team building in the future, Kohonen admits.
The game director does not yet have clear needs in mind for player acquisitions. Kohonen trusts the players.
– The level of demand will certainly be tough for the entire experienced team. You don’t have to sweat to train for achievements, says Kohonen about the team that is used to success.
Manse PP won its first medal and championship in men’s Superpesis 2021. In the 2022 season, Manse lost to Vimpel in the finals.
