What is the use of the tongue tie?

Its function is to prevent an organ from moving too far from its natural location. In this case here the language. It may happen that the frenulum is too short at birth (usually genetic cause), which prevents the baby from breastfeeding properly. A benign surgical procedure (the lingual frenulum is cut) can then be carried out. This operation called “frenotomy” will not disrupt the child’s development: he will be able to eat and speak normally, even without his lingual frenulum.
