The fierce storm that ravaged Western Sweden during Thursday afternoon and evening has now moved further east, albeit not as powerfully.
– It has been at its worst during the evening. If we look overnight, we see that it has calmed down, as far as the thunder is concerned anyway. There are still heavy showers here and there, says Ulrica Sievert, meteorologist at SMHI.
And the warning for thunderstorms has been removed during the night.
– But we are still having unstable weather for the next 24 hours. Even further ahead, when you look during the afternoon and evening during Friday, there can be showers with thunder, she says.
South-eastern parts will be affected
It is above all south-eastern Sweden that is affected when the storm now moves on during the weekend, and then moves north before the weather stabilizes.
It was Töreboda municipality in Västergötland in particular that was hit hard on Thursday where, among other things, a blown roof tore down a contact line that stopped train traffic for several hours. And the rescue service in Östra Skaraborg reports several alarms about downed trees and blown roofs.
SMHI has a little difficulty in assessing where it has been worst in the country during Thursday, but Ulrica Sievert, in addition to Töreboda, also mentions Gothenburg, which received close to 50 millimeters of rain in a few hours, which according to her can still be seen as remarkable.
