Masters of the Air: Barry Keoghan and Austin Butler

After their previous war series Band of Brothers (2001) and The Pacific (2010) – both streaming on WOW * – accompany Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks in Masters of the Air several pilots in the Second World War. In the fight against the Nazis, the aviators John Egan (Callum Turner), Buck Cleven (Austin Butler), Rosie Rosenthal (Nate Mann) and navigator Harry Crosby (Anthony Boyle) find that the air battles in their heavy bombers can quickly turn fatal.

From thrilling air battle scenes to prison camps to the surprising goosebump-inducing appearance of a German dark star (in episode 6), Master of the Air kept us hooked for 9 episodes. Is there a second season of the war series Master of the Air?

From the beginning, Masters of the Air, like its predecessors Bands of Brothers and The Pacific, was considered completed miniseries created. Steven Spielberg and Co. do not need the extension for a second season, which original mini-series like Big Little Lies occasionally postpone due to their success. Especially since such an extension would be difficult to justify within the war narrative. With the end of the Second World War, the history of fighter pilots also ended.

The only hope that fans of the Band of Brothers universe can cling to after Masters of the Air is that at some point we will have one fourth war series with an independent story – of course only if Spielberg and Hanks have the desire and time. Maybe after the ground, island and air war to fight on water?

Based on the current publication rhythm of the three series, this would probably only be expected in 10 years. But Apple TV+ is releasing the season finale Master of the Air additional documentary called The Bloody Hundredth.
