The junior crowns unfortunately missed the medals in the JVM.
One player in particular has endured enormous criticism following the failure.
Which causes Tre Kronor legend Tommy Salo to get really annoyed.
What started so well for Sweden during the JVM ended in a flat fall when it was time to play for the medals. The junior crowns suffered two straight losses in the last two games and had to settle for a sour fourth place in this year’s tournament.
The criticism in JVM
The disappointment has been tough for the Swedish team that started the tournament so incredibly well with several victories in a row and had an easier path to the JVM final. But the loss against Finland in the semi-final stung badly and one player was unfortunately singled out as a scapegoat.

The goalkeeper Melker Thelin received harsh criticism and even hate on social media after conceding the decisive goal rather easily. Which has aroused a great rage in the legendary Tre Kronor goalkeeper Tommy Salo.
– First of all, it was a tricky shot. As a goalkeeper, you don’t expect a shot to come from there when you play four against three. I’m not sure that I myself would have been prepared for it but been surprised, says the goalie hero in an interview with Hockey Sweden.
Salo’s giant fury
Salo thinks that the mockery and hatred directed at Thelin has been disgusting to follow.
– It’s terribly bad, says the former hockey goalkeeper to the hockey site.
– The drive that was and is on social media is at such a low level when you write anything about a junior who is in goal in a match. Then hiding behind the texts you wrote is bad. If you have criticism, in that case say it straight to the person’s face, but I don’t think people behind the keyboards dare to do that.

Tommy Salo knows exactly how it feels to be hanged as a scapegoat, as he himself was after Tre Kronor’s shock loss to Belarus in the 2002 Olympics.
– I hope and believe that Melker gets support from the guys and the leaders who have been there the whole time. Also his parents and friends when he gets home. Then I think it will be good anyway, he says in the interview.
