Biographical sheet. Tomas Martin Etcheverry was born on July 18, 1999 in La Plata which is the capital of the province of Buenos Aires. On the junior circuit, he stood out by winning the Copa Barranquilla and the Asuncion Bowl and above all by occupying the 12th place in the world. Present on the Challengers, he managed to win in Perugia and Trieste. In 2022, he joined the top 100. He played his first Grand Slams in 2022, losing each time in the 1st round. In 2023, he was knocked out in the 2nd round by Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open. The same year, he reached the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros for the first time.
Tomás Martín Etcheverry experienced a tragic episode in his life. He lost his big sister Magui in September 2022 who had been battling breast cancer since June 2020. She was a mother of two children. Since his death, the Argentine player has climbed the ATP rankings and he offered himself Monday, for the first time in his young career, a first Grand Slam quarter-final. He confessed during this Roland-Garros 2023, “constantly asking my sister to give me strength. I know that she always gives me strength.
