Two days after his release from prison in Egypt where he had been imprisoned for two years, Tom Erdimi arrived in Ndjamena this Friday, September 16. His plane landed in the Chadian capital at the end of the morning.

A welcome full of emotion. Hundreds of members of the Erdimi family were present, including his brother Timane who leads the Union of Resistance Forces. This rebel movement is currently participating in the inclusive national dialogue.
The Chadian authorities were there too. The Minister of National Reconciliation Acheikh Ibn Oumar, the former opposition leader Saleh Kebzabo who negotiated the peace agreements with the politico-military in Doha.
Tom Erdimi took the floor to, first of all, thank all those who worked for his release. ” Chadians must reconcile “, he also told RFI in his very first statement.
Although weakened, the former rector of the University of Ndjamena indulged in a few jokes with his fellow teachers who came to welcome him. It was under dinghies and horns that the procession reached the home of Tom Erdimi.
