In Uganda, homosexuality can now lead to life imprisonment, and religious groups in many cases block the anti-gay trend. But at the People’s Mosque in Cape Town, where imam Mushin Hendricks leads Friday prayers, it looks different. As an imam, it wasn’t easy to come out, but Hendricks believes that many Muslims have received Islam’s message about the back foot.
– God is not homophobic, the Koran is not homophobic, it is my society that is homophobic, he says.
In his mosque, not only is tolerance towards people’s different sexual orientation preached, here you also see no reason to condemn the Koran burnings in Sweden – see more in the video.
