Do social networks, TikTok in mind, lead us straight to a permanent quest for perfection? A justified question in view of all these tips that tend to show that there are shades of foundation, blush, lipstick, and other eye shadows, ideal for each of us. Something that leaves little room for spontaneity, for difference, and even more for eccentricity. Still, one of the most famous make-up artists on the planet has just delivered an infallible tip for obtaining the shade of lipstick that would stick best to your skin. Did you say impossible?
In a pinch of a finger
This is to Dutch makeup artist and youtuber Nikkie de Jager, aka Nikkie Tutorials, that we owe this beauty tip. More specifically, the young woman took over the video of a tiktoker, named Unbidden, to test this infallible technique before sharing it with as many people as possible. As a result, the original video now has more than 15 million views, when its recovery totals more than 3 million. A short-lived success that should grow in the days and weeks to come as the reactions of subscribers are glowing.
In the initial video, we discover a young woman in a large cosmetics store, posted in front of the lipstick section. The message reads: “Here’s how to find the perfect shade of pink lipstick”, while watching the user pinch the tip of her ring finger. A gesture that causes, due to the stoppage of blood circulation, a change in the color of the finger, a shade that would therefore be the one that should be obtained to have the ideal shade of lipstick.
Are you skeptical? Nikkie Tutorials too. At first in any case… Taking up the original publication, the makeup pro is surprised at the effectiveness of such a trick. Still, she chooses to experiment with it to get to the bottom of it. And oh surprise, the makeup artist discovers amazed that the technique allows her to obtain a shade that matches many lipsticks she already owns. Neither one nor two, the professional validates, and shows the result of her beauty treatment, the result of a mixture of three lipsticks of the said shade.
Limited possibilities
It was enough to trigger the wonder of its subscribers, although, let’s face it, the three shades chosen by the makeup artist have nothing to do with each other. Some, however, are more sarcastic: “you have to suffer to be beautiful”, declares a follower, while another affirms: “it is not similar, but it is pretty all the same”. Anyway, the trick went around the Chinese social network in record time.
Let’s admit that this technique does work, it is only limited to pink lipsticks, as the first user specifies. And again, it does not work for all skin tones, far from it, since the pink shade can only be obtained for white skin. A trick which, beyond its WTF aspect, is therefore not suitable for the greatest number. It is also reminiscent of the technique of ‘natural blush‘, which consisted more than a year ago of pinching your nose and cheeks to obtain a blush… without blush.
