Today marks 80 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz

Today marks 80 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp. At the same time, the day of remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust is celebrated.

The Auschwitz concentration camp located in Oświęcim, Poland is now a museum. A memorial service will be held there today, to which all living survivors of the camp have been invited. In addition, the event will be attended by several heads of state and government representatives, including the President of the Republic Alexander Stubb with spouses.

It is estimated that the Nazis killed around 1.1 million people in Auschwitz, the majority of whom were Jews.
