Today is World Overconsumption Day the entire years natural

Finland used up its own share of the year’s renewable natural resources already in April.

Today is World Overconsumption Day, says the sustainable development organization Global Footprint Network -organization.

It means that humanity has consumed in seven months the natural resources that should be enough for the whole year.

According to the Global Footprint Network, we are using nature 1.7 times faster than our planet’s ecosystems can regenerate.

Last year, the overspending day was August 2. Overconsumption Day has been celebrated between July and August for the past decade.

In Finland, natural resources were enough for four months

Several countries are consuming their natural resources even faster. For example, Qatar and Luxembourg used up their shares already in February.

In Finland, Overconsumption Day was celebrated in April.

The calculations are based on UN statistics.

Overconsumption accelerates deforestation, soil erosion, biodiversity loss and increased carbon dioxide, which in turn leads to extreme weather events and reduced food production, the Global Footprint Network says.
