Are you a smoker? Retired ? Beneficiary of the energy check? Please note, many changes will take place this Friday March 1st. Here is the list of things to know.

Tobacco prices, promotions on the shelves, retirement pensions… A certain number of changes will occur this Friday March 1st… which will have a significant impact on your daily life and your wallet. Explanations.

The price of tobacco will increase again

Bad news for smokers: the prices of certain packages will increase further, according to a decree published on February 9 in the Official Journal. An increase of 50 to 75 cents is expected depending on the packages.

From March 1, packets of Winfield red XL will increase, for example, from €14.40 to €15, while packets of 20 Lucky Strike blue cigarettes will see their price increase from 11.50 to 12 euros.

All of these increases are available on the site of French customs.

In supermarkets, promotions on certain non-food products – such as hygiene, cleaning or perfume products – will now be capped at 34%.

Adopted in March 2023, this law aims “to strengthen the balance in commercial relations between suppliers and distributors“, explains the government website Public Life.

    Agirc-Arrco pensions could change

Beware of the cold shower for beneficiaries of the Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension: some pensions will decrease and others will increase.

Clearly, there are two possibilities, as our colleagues from Ouest-France explain: if your rate has increased, “a regularization will be carried out in March when the pension is paid“.

On the other hand, if your rate has fallen, “you should have received a transfer in February, corresponding to the reimbursement of social security contributions deducted in excess from your January and February pensions“.

The amount of your pension could therefore increase this month of March.

Last month for the energy check

On April 21, 2023, around 5.6 million households received a new energy check to help them pay their energy bills.

However, be sure to use it in good time: it expires on March 31, 2024.

    Conditioned RSA: new departments concerned

This is not a radical change, but an enlargement.

By March, the number of departments where obtaining active solidarity income (RSA) will be conditional on 15 hours of activity will increase from eighteen to forty-seven departments.

The government’s objective? Supporting the unemployed into employment.

End of validity of meal vouchers 2023

As of March 1, your 2023 meal vouchers will no longer be valid. However, it is possible to transfer them to your 2024 balance.

    The transition to summer time

Some good news to close these announcements: the switch to summer time will be effective on the night of Saturday March 30 to Sunday March 31.
