The speech given by the director of the Mont-Godinne lung transplant center in Namur in Belgium made Dr. Gérald Kierzek jump, who denounced remarks that were both scientifically false but also contrary to medical ethics.

Patrick Evrard, director of the Mont-Godinne lung transplant center in Namur, Belgium, believes that “To transplant a non-vaccinated person is to waste an organ”, because performing a lung transplant on a patient not vaccinated with Covid, c is to take a significant risk of death.

    Inadmissible remarks

In addition to being totally false, these remarks are contrary to medical ethics and deontology. explains Dr. Kierzek, emergency doctor at the Hôtel-Dieu in Paris and medical director of Doctissimo. “It’s a little disturbing music, which is being heard in France, more and more. It started with Emmanuel Macron’s “fuck the non-vaccinated”. Then it continued through the press with the two forums published on the unvaccinated: that in Le Parisien by Dr David Smadja and the lawyer Benjamin Fellous, for whom the law must “sanction” those who refuse the vaccine or that of André Grimaldi, professor emeritus at the CHU Pitié -Salpêtrière who speaks of “choice not to be resuscitated” for the non-vaccinated… It is even more serious in the United States, where a 31-year-old patient was removed from the transplant waiting lists because he did not was not vaccinated” says the doctor.

Code of Ethics and Hippocratic Oath

Dr. Gérald Kierzek recalls that all doctors are subject to the Hippocratic oath, which specifies that the doctor must “respect all persons, their autonomy and their will, without any discrimination according to their status or their convictions” but also article 7 of the code of ethics of medicine, attached to the code of public health in France, which stipulates that “the doctor must listen to, examine, advise or treat with the same conscience all people regardless of their origin, their mores and their family situation, their membership or non-membership of a specific ethnic group, nation or religion, their disability or their state of health, their reputation or the feelings he may have towards them”.

Get out of this negative spiral

For Gérald Kierzek, we cannot point the finger at the non-vaccinated: “Today it’s them and tomorrow we’ll blame the smoker for having smoked? The alcoholic for drinking? The sedentary person cannot be treated for his myocardial infarction? Patients are not classified as “good citizens or good students or bad citizens, bad students…”. And the doctor pushes his reasoning even further: “If the unvaccinated waste the transplants, what do we do with the organs of the unvaccinated donors?

We must quickly get out of this spiral where we are all losers, in the end” Dr. Kierzek rightly concludes.
