To strengthen its dominant position, WhatsApp is upgrading its messaging by integrating different essential functions. On the program: modifying text, pinning messages and changing themes.
If Instagram is above all a social network focused on images in general and photos in particular, it has its own messaging service, in order to offer a confidential communication space. This system is called DM (Direct Message) and allows an account to send written messages, links, audio, images to another account directly and privately. And suffice to say that it quickly became a must-have on the platform and one of the favorite discussion channels for many users. However, the messaging was devoid of essential functions, which are nevertheless found among its competitors. Meta has now corrected this breach and announces, in a blog posta plethora of new features.
Instagram DM: new functions galore
Instagram messaging finally integrates the DM editing function. From now on, you will have 15 minutes after sending your message to modify it. To do this, simply long press on it to display the context menu, then select the “Modify” option. You will just have to save it once your correction is made. Note that the message will have a small “modified” label.
The second new feature is the ability to pin your favorite discussions to the top of your inbox, so you always have it on hand. Again, just long press on the conversation and press “Pin”. You can keep up to three, whether private or in a group, as favorites. You can choose to unpin a thread at any time.
When you read a message (DM) on Instagram, your interlocutor knows it immediately. In fact, you are “betrayed” by a “Seen” who appears under the bubble. A system found in many messaging services, starting with WhatsApp. But sometimes it can happen that you don’t necessarily want to chat after each message you receive. However, with acknowledgment of receipt, it is impossible to shamelessly ignore messages. Suffice to say that the function greatly displeased users at the time of its launch, because even if it can be practical in certain situations, it can lead to a real lack of confidentiality (see our article). Now you can choose to enable or disable receipts, for all your chats or just for some of them. To modify this detail, go to the “Settings and privacy” menu, then choose Messages and replies to stories”, and finally on “Show read receipts”. From there, activate or deactivate the option as you wish.
Another small function, lighter this time: you can now favorite your favorite stickers for easy access. To do this, tap and hold the sticker you want to save. You’ll find it at the top of the page the next time you go to stickers. Additionally, these stickers, GIFs, videos, photos and voice messages are available when you reply to a message. Just long-press on the message you want to reply to, select Reply, and you’ll see the voice sticker content options.
Finally, you will be able to modify the atmosphere of the messaging by choosing your theme, some of which are animated. The latest ones available are Love, Lollipop and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
