To help the French better control their energy expenditure, the Government has launched a new Thermostat Plan. A temperature measuring device will then be compulsory in all homes from 2027. We tell you everything about this measurement.

After a summer period marked by heat waves and an early autumn with very mild temperatures, the cold finally set in in France. The weather forced citizens to turn their heating back on. Unfortunately, this is not without consequences on the purchasing power of many households. And for good reason: inflation and energy costs, since the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, have rarely been so high. To deal with this, the Government announced in October, during a conference on energy sobriety, that financial support would be put in place. In fact, assistance will be paid to you if you install a connected thermostat in your home. An initiative which aims to combat the overconsumption of electricity caused by heating homes. Because, as stipulated Decree No. 2023-444 published in the Official Journal on June 7, 2023all households must be equipped with this type of “smart” device by 1er January 2027.

Thermostat Plan: savings at your fingertips

Since Friday 1er December 2023, households who install a connected thermostat in their home are eligible for financial assistance from the state. As reported by AFP, this subsidy will essentially depend on the heated surface area. If your accommodation is less than 35 m2, this financial boost could amount to 260 euros. And if its surface area is equal to or greater than 130 m2, the State could pay you up to 624 euros. This help “will cover up to 80% of the price of the new connected thermostat”, assures the media Ekwateur. As a reminder, the prices of so-called “classic” connected thermostats are between 100 and 300 euros. However, the most advanced models can sell for between 600 and 1,500 euros. A cost to which you must add that of the installation. Because, yes, the latter does not happen alone and generally costs 200 euros. We understand better why the Government recently introduced this new aid.

Alongside this aid, the Government also plans to disseminate awareness campaigns concerning the advantages of these thermostats. But that’s not all ! Professionals will also be trained to raise awareness and support the most recalcitrant. The opportunity to learn a little more about these devices which have long been considered gadgets. From now on, thermostats have become essential tools to combat overconsumption of energy. Especially since they are relatively simple to use. In fact, the tool, which is directly connected to the heating, adjusts itself according to the ambient temperature, the time of day or even your settings. Some thermostats can even be configured from a smartphone using an application. If you set it up correctly, the device could help you save up to 15%.
