To fight more effectively against fraudulent online purchases, the gendarmerie has deployed Perceval, a service allowing victims to more easily report the hacks of bank card.
In the era of all digital, more and more purchases are made online and the frauds linked to these transactions are multiplying. To effectively fight this type of scam, the national gendarmerie launched the tool in 2018 Pierval. Accessible via the FranceConnect authentication platform, it quickly reports a fraudulent purchase made online. At the same time, Perceval accelerates the reimbursement procedures with the victim’s bank.
Thus, if a user is the victim of a fraud with a bank card, his report with the gendarmerie takes place in several stages:
- Opposition your bank card with your banking establishment.
- Recover the opposition number provided by the bank.
- Identify yourself on FranceConnect.
- Make your declaration of fraud on Perceval.
During the fraud declaration process, various elements will be requested from the user such as his personal information (name, first name, address), his banking information, the date of online purchase as well as the opposition number transmitted by the bank to ensure the follow -up of the report.
Perceval: an online tool to centralize the reports
However, Perceval is not useful for all cases of banking fraud. Indeed, if the victim is no longer in possession of his bank card, he must first file a complaint for theft of a bank card, and then declare his fraud. The government’s website rightly recalls this :: “If I no longer have my bank card following a flight, I file a complaint”. In the event that the victim is not aware of the author of the fraud, he can prepare her complaint online. On the other hand, if she knows the fraudster, she can directly go to a police station or a gendarmerie to file a complaint.
One of the advantages of Perceval is that it allows the gendarmerie to centralize the reports of a bank card fraud. Thus, it allows the police to identify the crooks more quickly and to better identify the scams.
