The developers of Final Fantasy XIV are currently preparing for the upcoming launch of the new expansion Dawntrail. In order to keep the enormous load on the existing data centers as low as possible, Square Enix is taking a drastic, temporary measure.
What is Square Enix doing to reduce the load on the servers? Even now, several weeks before the launch of Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, there may be queues at prime time when logging into your server.
The situation is likely to worsen noticeably with early access on June 28, 2024, or the actual release on July 2, 2024. To put this into perspective: Around the launch of the previous expansion, Endwalker, the queues were so long and the problems with error messages so widespread that Square Enix was forced to stop sales of the MMORPG.
The cinematic trailer for Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail leaves you wanting more:
To prevent something like this from happening again, the new Shadow data center will go live for Europe on June 11, 2024. There you will find the four new worlds Innocence, Pixie, Titania and Tycoon, which are intended to provide temporary refuge for your characters.
What does temporary mean? The new worlds will only be available during the launch of Dawntrail and will only be accessible via data center travel. If your server is plagued by long queues, you can use the service to temporarily switch to one of the new worlds.
Note: You cannot create new characters or transfer home worlds on the temporary worlds. However, functions such as completing missions and combat content or searching for content will be available without restrictions.
Exciting trip to Tural
What can I expect from Dawntrail? The new expansion for Final Fantasy XIV takes you to the exotic continent of Tural, where all kinds of new challenges and features await. Here are the most important new features:
By the way, MeinMMO editor Sophia Weiß was able to get her hands on the new Viper and Pictomancer classes before the release, and the Viper is so good that it could become her new main class after eight years of loyalty: I played the new expansion for Final Fantasy XIV and fell in love with the new class like it was from Sword Art Online
