To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Free is launching several marketing operations for its subscribers and potential future customers. On the program: a limited edition Freebox Ultra, a collaboration for sneakers and promotional codes.
“For 25 years, Free has been defined by strong values: simplicity, generosity and, of course, passion for technological innovation”. It is with these words that the alternative operator announced its surprise to celebrate its anniversary. He had implied that he was preparing to release a new Internet box. THISIt didn’t fail, but it wasn’t at all what we expected. On December 3, he actually unveiled the Freebox Ultra Limited Edition. The latter stands out with a completely different, very “technological” design. In the process, the operator took the opportunity to launch promotional codes for its subscribers and to unveil… a pair of shoes bearing its image.
25 years of Free: a limited edition Freebox Ultra
The Freebox Ultra Limited Edition has the same technical characteristics of the Freebox Ultra, with a symmetrical speed of 8 Gb/s and Wi-Fi 7. Its particularity comes from the design, which “recalls iconic technological products of the 90s such as the iMac G3 or the Game Boy Color”. The box takes the shape of the classic version, but this time sports a transparent red shell which allows a glimpse of the components. An LED strip is integrated all around the case, with six different display modes that can be controlled from the Freebox application.
New Free subscribers have the opportunity to choose between the classic version and this limited collector’s version while stocks last, through the Freebox Ultra and Freebox Ultra Essential offers. Current subscribers can also request to have their Freebox Ultra exchanged for this new model, but the exchange will cost them 49 euros. Anyway !
25 years of Free: no revolution, just marketing
At the same time, Free is launching into recycling by teaming up with the French brand Corail to launch a pair of shoes, called Dream Revolution, with a unique and particularly inventive design. They are quite simply made from recycled pieces of its Freebox Revolution, of which they use the black and red colors. They have Free and 1337 logos, as well as an RJ11 cable at the edge. For the moment, Corail has only made 100 copies, which Free will win through a competition. All you have to do is register, provided you have a Freebox or Free Mobile identifier.
Some evil tongues would say that the operator is a little out of his depth. In reality, it is directly inspired by Lidl, which has had the luxury of producing its own clothing collection, with shoes, caps, socks, bananas and t-shirts in the brand’s colors (yellow, blue and red). This limited edition Freebox could well increase in value over time and bring in a nice sum of money by becoming a collector’s item!
Finally, Free has decided to spoil its customers by introducing a new section dedicated to promotions in the Subscriber Area. It is accessible in the “My Phone” section, then “My Promo Codes”. Among the first promotions available, the operator is offering an offer of €50 off the purchase of a Samsung Galaxy S24, valid from December 5, 2024 to December 19, for any subscription to a Free 5G Package, Free Package at €39.99, Special VP Series Package, Special Series Package, Free Series and Free VP Series Package. These promotions are valid on the site or in store. In short, nothing revolutionary for these 25 years, just a lot of marketing communication!
