To avoid running out of points and having your driving

To avoid running out of points and having your driving license suspended, the Government will set up a new site, MesPointsPermis, to consult your balance. It will succeed the aging Télépoints.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of drivers have their driving licenses revoked due to the loss of all their points. However, many could have avoided this if they had completed a road safety awareness course, which allows you to regain up to four points per year. But for that, we still need to know how much we have left, in order to do it in time! If for many years it was complicated for motorists to know their points balance, given that they had to go to the prefecture to obtain this information, the launch of the Télépoints service in 2007 made things easier. This is a website allowing you to consult the number of points assigned to your driving license file. Unfortunately, for several more years, you had to have a secure confidential code to access it. It was only in 2017 that Télépoints became easily accessible to everyone thanks to the connection via France Connect. The fact remains that the service is now obsolete, especially since it only provides partial information. This is why the Ministry of the Interior has decided to replace it by the end of the year with a more modern and more complete service: MesPointsPermis.

MesPointsPermis: track your points balance more easily

MesPointsPermis aims to make tracking point balances simpler and more understandable for drivers. Like Telepoints, it will allow the holder of a driving license to consult their points balance and obtain their restricted information statement (RIR), which certifies the validity and extent of their driving rights, but also his entire driving license file, with new information available. The site will also inform you of the expected date for points recovery and the usefulness of carrying out a road safety awareness course. Obviously, it will comply with GDPR rules, with the possibility for the user to create their identifiers and password or to use the FranceConnect service.

Please note that the balance displayed on Télépoints, and therefore subsequently on MesPointsPermis, only corresponds to the number of points at a given time, at the time the request is made. The administration may well not have yet recorded decisions to withdraw points. The balance indicated is therefore not 100% reliable. It remains that the end of the withdrawal of points for speeding violations of less than 5 km/h, from 1er January 2024, should also improve the situation, with many losses resulting from small speeding violations.
