After surviving over ten assassination attempts, the enemy targeted his wife.
Kyrylo Budanov’s wife was poisoned by arsenic – and he knows who is responsible.
– You will see retaliatory actions on Russian territory, warns the Ukrainian spy chief.
In June 2023, a representative of the intelligence service told that his boss Kyrylo Budanov survived over ten assassination attempts.
It was in November that instead his wife, Marianna Budanova, became a target. She is said to have been poisoned by heavy metals, which she probably ingested via food. According to Ukrainian Pravda, it is about arsenic and mercury.
Budanova survived the assassination attempt and has since undergone treatment.
– My wife is feeling better. As I did not drink poison, it is difficult for me to say whether it was an attempt to murder me. But I have already survived many assassination attempts and will probably survive many more, says her husband Kyrylo Budanov in an interview with French Liberation.
Retaliatory actions
When asked if Budanov knows who is responsible for the poisoning, the head of the intelligence service answers: “of course I do!”. He is also clear that the assassination attempt will be avenged.
– I think that in the near future you will see retaliatory actions on Russian territory, and everyone will understand this.
Several other employees of the intelligence service are said to have also been poisoned at the same time, but were not as badly affected.
The new plans
This is not the first time Budanov has threatened to target Russian targets. In February, the spy chief was interviewed by CNN and then stated that Kiev’s military forces intend to escalate attacks on Russian infrastructure.
– Hypothetically speaking, there is a plan according to which all this happens. And I think this plan includes all important critical infrastructure facilities and military infrastructure facilities of the Russian Federation, Budanov said.
