For his recovery race, Primoz Roglic dominated this Tirreno Adriatico with a head and shoulders.
Absent since his big fall on the Vuelta, Primoz Roglic had an almost perfect week on Italian roads by winning the Tirreno Adriatico for the second time in his career. The week had started well with a very honorable time against the Italian Filippo Ganna in particular who will keep his blue leader’s jersey for three days by crushing this first stage.
The next day, the European road champion Fabio Jakobsen, well led by Julian Alaphilippe, will win the second stage after a massive sprint. On Wednesday March 8, Alpecin will finally win its very first stage of the 2023 season thanks to its house sprinter Jasper Philipsen. During the 4th stage, the priority of the Jumbo was Wout van Aert, but a fall in the last three kilometers redistributed the cards and Primoz Roglic won in the sprint ahead of Julian Alaphilippe. The Roglic show was only in its infancy since the Slovenian also won on the 5th and 6th stage before Jasper Philipsen offered himself a double on the final stage.
“It’s nice to get back in the race like that, winning. I’ve enjoyed this whole week. My teammates have been very strong and I would have liked to have them with me on the podium to celebrate together. There’s a week, I mostly expected to suffer, I just wanted to race again. But everything went well. The fact that I got results makes it even more beautiful. As we approach the Tour d’ Italy, above all, it is a confirmation that we are doing well. We must continue to work to improve and we are always trying to do so” explained the winner.
