It has become increasingly common for women to skip periods with the help of contraceptives. This is evidenced by several midwives that TV4 Nyheterna spoke to.
And this is also visible in the statistics. In the last ten years, the use of birth control – which basically removes the bleeding completely – has almost doubled.
Haven’t had a period in years
The friends Tindra and Michaela haven’t had their periods for several years. They both have birth control that keeps them from bleeding.
– It was a lot to avoid having periods, period pains and not thinking about it. Live normally, says Tindra Näsström, 19 years old.
According to midwife Sofia Strand, the research and conversations surrounding menstruation have changed. In the past, it was considered good to bleed when you were on birth control. But today it is just as natural not to have a period.
– We reduce the bleeding, period pains and we increase the possibility of being able to participate in activities, without having to skip school or work, with these contraceptives, she says.
